Dressing and Wound Care

Our dressing and wound care service covers a wide range — from surgical sutures to pressure ulcers, diabetic foot wounds and chronic leg ulcers — applied at home in sterile conditions. Our licensed nurses are reachable across Istanbul 24/7.

What Is Home Wound Care?

It is the cleansing, disinfection and proper dressing of a wound. Done incorrectly, it can lead to infection, delayed healing and serious complications. Sterile technique and correct material selection are critical. Home wound care reduces hospital-acquired infection risk and preserves daily routines.

Wound Care Types We Provide

  • Post-operative dressings: Surgical wound, suture or stapler care
  • Suture and stapler removal: Sterile removal on the date set by your doctor
  • Diabetic wound care: Foot ulcers, toe wounds — prevention and treatment
  • Pressure ulcers: Modern dressings for stage 1–4 ulcers
  • Venous/arterial ulcers: Compression and moist wound care for leg ulcers
  • Burn care: Home dressings for second-degree burns
  • Chronic wound monitoring: Weekly photo measurement and tracking
  • Stoma care: Colostomy/ileostomy cleaning and bag changes

Who Is It For?

  • Patients who recently had surgery
  • Diabetics (especially those at risk of foot ulcers)
  • Bedridden patients with pressure ulcers
  • Patients with delayed healing post-chemo/radiotherapy
  • Those with chronic venous insufficiency leg ulcers
  • Patients with stoma (colostomy, ileostomy)

The Process

  1. Wound assessment: The nurse examines stage, drainage and surrounding skin.
  2. Dressing plan: Materials and frequency are set per doctor recommendation.
  3. Sterile application: Performed with gloves, sterile sets, antiseptics and proper dressings.
  4. Family briefing: Do's and don'ts for keeping the wound clean.
  5. Follow-up: The wound's healing trajectory is captured photographically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide the dressing materials?

Standard materials (gauze, antiseptic, gloves, tape) are brought by us. Modern wound dressings (hydrocolloid, alginate, silver-impregnated) are obtained from the pharmacy with a prescription; we'll guide you.

How often should the dressing be changed?

It depends on wound type and drainage. Post-op sutures every 24–48 hours; diabetic wounds daily; pressure ulcers every 2–3 days.

What if my wound isn't healing?

The nurse tracks healing trajectory. If the wound hasn't shrunk in two weeks, or if odor, fever or rising pain appear, we refer you to your doctor.

I developed a pressure ulcer — how long does treatment take?

Stage 1–2 ulcers usually heal in 2–4 weeks with proper care. Stage 3–4 deeper ulcers may take weeks to months and require a multidisciplinary team.

I'm diabetic — how do I prevent foot ulcers?

Regular foot inspection, proper footwear, blood-sugar control and early detection of small cracks are critical. Our nurse provides education for the entire family.
